Turtle Island Bioregional Congress Indigenous Program

The bioregional movement is rising, and this fall 300 of its most dedicated practitioners gather in one place. The Turtle Island Bioregional Congress (TIBC11) returns September 15–19 in Vernonia, Oregon, United States for five days of councils, workshops, ceremony, and celebration rooted in place. Organizers, Indigenous leaders, and community stewards from across Turtle Island will share skills, align on strategy, and build the relationships that carry movements forward. Our Turtle Island Bioregional Congress team recognizes the historical and present atrocities that have been and continue to be done to Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island. With a history ridden with mass genocide of Indigenous cultures, peoples, Lands, and ancient lifeways, it is our duty to restore and repair this immense harm. As we continuously strive to reach for loving relations with our local Indigenous relatives, our intention is to create an honorable and welcoming space for our Indigenous participants through our Indigenous Leadership Program. At minimum, we feel reparations require prioritizing Indigenous leadership in all sectors. Beyond this, we hope their messages reach far and wide globally and that they receive more than enough holistic support to heal from and rise above the historical and systemic abuses directed at them. 

 

We realize the enormity of repair required to be in right relation with Indigenous people and we hope that our ongoing work in our bioregional congresses will plant the seeds for exceedingly better futures for all of us, especially the Indigenous stewards of these ancient lands. We hope that with these intentions, Indigenous Leaders will continue to rise and return to their roles as wisdom keepers, Earth protectors, and guides for residents on their ancestral homelands and beyond.
